5 Ways to Make your Blog More Popular

5 Blogging TipsStarting a blog can be a very easy thing to do. With the right topic, writing style and consistent content creation, a blog can bring a good amount of traffic and business to any website.

The most discouraging thing that happens to people with new blog sites is the low to non existent traffic the websites receive at first. Making a blog popular does take some time and can be very frustrating. However, by following these simple steps, you better your chances of gaining loyal follows and an increased reader base.

1. Write A lot

While it may be frustrating at first due to the lack of readers, by writing content a few times a week, you increase your chances of Google picking up one of your articles and bringing traffic to each particular page. Google not only ranks individuals pages (articles) in their search engine results, but also homepages that contain a lot of content. So for SEO purposes now content = great. In addition, having a blog that is updated each day (or more often) encourages people to return for new material.

2. Write for people, not Search Engines

Sometimes bloggers get caught up on the ‘SEO-craze’ and decide to write articles that are designed to rank for certain keywords in Google. This usually doesn’t work out well since it looks obvious and poorly written. For example, if you have a fitness blog, you shouldn’t write something like:

“Today I want to talk about low fat calorie diet because a low fat calorie diet is great for your health and makes you look good too. A low fat calorie diet isn’t as hard as some people think it is. It consists of making sure you’re eating low fat calorie foods and drinks in your diet.”

It’s pretty obvious what ‘keyword’ the paragraph is aimed at. Don’t do it.

3. Write about something unique, not necessarily the news

Mostly due to writers block, a lot of bloggers like to write about the latest news or popular story in their industry. However, when every other blog out there is talking about the same thing, it may not be as beneficial as you’d think. It’ s important to look for topics that are more niche and unique, so that you do differentiate yourself from other ‘news sources’. Interview certain people involved in your industry, blog about your own theories, and encourage users to comment and interact.

4. Stumble your content

An often overlooked tool for bloggers is the popular web surfing app StumbleUpon.com. This tool randomly showcases websites to millions of users based on their likes, preferences and topic choices. So for example, if your blog is about low calories diets, and you add yours articles into stumble upon, chances are people will ‘stumble’ onto your site as they’re given websites like yours by the App. Several blogs gets hundreds if not thousands of visits each day from this app. It’s free and easy to use.

5. Social Bookmarking is your Blog’s best friend

Register your blog with sites like Technorati.com and Digg.com. These sites are a great way of sharing your content with others and gaining plenty of targeted traffic. Technorati will feature your blog and articles based on the topic you choose. Social Bookmarking sites like Digg are only successful if your articles are very interesting, unique and well written. Several cheap services offer ‘social bookmarking services’ however they are usually bad quality and ineffective in gaining any solid traffic.

We recommend you evaluate your current blog and see if you’re following the five steps found here. Most importantly, make sure to write often and for your audience, and you should see more success.
