Not all SEO Services are the Same

Just about every business (or even person) who has an email or a website has been solicited by at least a dozen “SEO companies.”

Many of these solicitation emails are usually general, mass-delivered service offerings promising top search engine results and exposure for a very low, tempting price. Their headlines usually start with “Be #1 in Google!” or “Be found in Google for only $100!”

The problem is,  that a lot of these so-called “agencies” are either misleading the company by offering a temporary service that appears like SEO (however is costly and likely very ineffective), or providing a very poor, outdated service.

SEO has been around a little over 15 years or so. Throughout that time, SEO has evolved from being a very simple service that could be done by just about any business owner, to a highly complex ‘art’ that takes time and resources to complete. Many of these businesses promoting ‘cheap seo’, are utilizing outdated exploits that were once successful in  shooting websites up to the top of Google (during the early days of SEO).

Today’s SEO should be considered like a marathon. Due to the complexity of Google’s search algorithm, it takes significant time and resources to make a website competitive for particular keywords. SEO companies that offer a very inexpensive service (that promise national exposure and Google ‘domination’) are usually trying to ‘cut corners’ by using automated tools that spam your website across the web, are based primarily in foreign countries (therefore customer service is severely limited) or are using dangerous exploits that are forbidden by Google. Unless they’re offering inexpensive, LOCAL SEO, I’d recommend you look elsewhere.

However, just because there are the unfortunate majority giving a bad name to SEO does not mean that all SEO companies are bad. Those that are focused on quality, long-term relationships with their clients, and employ the newest and proven method of internet market techniques can be very beneficial to any online business.

Do your research, ask a perspective SEO company several questions including their methodology and past successes. Just rest assured, there’s still a lot of us good guys out there.
